Colloquium Transport Planning Research 2014
The Colloquium Transport Planning Research (in Dutch: Colloquium Vervoersplanologisch Speurwerk) is a yearly 2-day conference that aims to be the platform where researchers, policy makers and other meet and discuss topics at the crossroads of traffic transport and spatial planning. After the 40th anniversary last year in Rotterdam, the conference was held this time in Eindhoven. TrafficQuest was present to present the results of the workshop on urban traffic management. The paper and presentation can be downloaded, but are in Dutch.
Cooperative ITS and Automatic Driving
Cooperative ITS and Automatic Driving receive a lot of attention at this moment. Initiatives are developed and a number of different stakeholders (individual or in some form of cooperation) are working on these topics around the world. TrafficQuest has published in 2011 a state-of-the-art report on the topic of cooperative ITS, but in the last couple of years rapid developments took place, which made an update more than welcome. Also automatic driving is now a hot topic and considering the connections between automatic driving and cooperative ITS both topics are discussed (in Dutch!) in the report State-of-the-Art achtergronddocument “Coöperatieve systemen en Automatisch rijden”.
Impacts of Traffic Management 2014
Knowledge about the impacts of traffic management is useful and necessary, both for policy making as for the operations in a traffic control centre. For example on a strategic level this knowledge is used to consider and assess investment alternatives and on an operational level it is used to tune and improve traffic control scenarios. In The Netherlands a lot of attention has been paid to the evaluation of traffic management measures. Since 2008 an overview exists in which the results of all evaluation studies in The Netherlands are summarised. Recently TrafficQuest has updated this summary with the latest studies and now 180 studies are included. These studies are referenced in this list and the results are given in this overview (in Dutch).
Organisation of Traffic Management
The organisation of traffic management is defined as the assignment, the interpretation, the realisation and the harmonization of the tasks, responsibilities and qualifications of the different stakeholders involved in the policy or operational aspects of traffic management. Often it is a neglected part of traffic management, but in our view a very important one. In this state of the art document (only available in Dutch) we discuss the traffic management process and the organisation of traffic information. Also incident management is described, as an important topic within traffic management, but with a specific organisational structure. The report describes all these aspects and the different stakeholders involved.
