Paper on automated driving in mixed traffic wins a prize!

On Friday December 16th, 2016, Simeon Calvert presented the paper “Considering knowledge gaps for automated driving in conventional traffic” during the Fourth International Conference on Advances in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering - ACSEE 2016 in Rome, Italy. The paper describes which problems can occur if more or less automated vehicles will participate in traffic and which research is still needed to tackle these problems. The work in the paper was initiated by TrafficQuest and the paper is also co-authored by TrafficQuest. The research discussed was highly valued by the conference participants and the paper was awarded the best paper!

National Traffic Congress 2016

The Natonal Traffic Congress 2016 was attended by more than 400 traffic and mobility professionals. They listened and talked about among others urban mobility, road design and big data. TrafficQuest had 2 contributions this year, both papers for discussion (in Dutch). One paper deals with the requirements from road authorities that can be specified for C-ITS applications, which are now in development everywhere. The paper discusses new control possibilities that become available if information is exchanged between traffic signal control systems and road users. In the session the persons present could vote on propositions that were put forward. Based on the outcome the discussion was held. 

National Traffic Congress 2015

Thursday November 5th, 2015 the Dutch National Traffic Congress was organised in Zwolle. The theme of this year was 'Dare to choose' and this theme and the choices which are relevant today were discussed with a panel. After the attendees could choose from parallel sessions in which 21 papers were presented and discussed. TrafficQuest presented a paper on "The effects of automatic driving on traffic flow and traffic management". Besides that a discussion paper on urban traffic management and the initiative to come to a platform on urban traffic management was brought to the attention of the public.

European Transport Conference 2014

The European Transport Conference is a yearly organised by the Association for European Transport (AET). Rijkswaterstaat is a member of this organisation, that aims to be a platform of European transport professionals and that promotes the exchange of ideas, information and possiblities for cooperations among its members. From September 29th until October 1st 2014 this conferenc was held in Frankfurt, Germany. Henk Taale attended it and presented the road safety situation in the Netherlands. He also presented a paper on the use of traffic lights to meter traffic. All in all it was a interesting conference with a good mixture of research and practical topics.
